Ways to Enjoy Chicago’s Good Weather

by Christine Hadley

Ways to Enjoy Chicago’s Good Weather

We’ve experienced a roller coaster of weather and it’s starting to feel a lot like summer. I may be a little biased, but Chicago is one best cities to be in during the summertime. This is the time of year when people stop being hermits and are ready to overcome that seasonal depression. It’s time to take a break from Netflix because let’s face it, we’re lucky to get a couple months of good weather.

Here are a few ways to take full advantage of the warm temperatures:

Beaches – Chicago has miles and miles of beaches and each beach has something to offer everyone. If you’re looking for something near the downtown area, check out Oak Street Beach. One of Chicago’s most popular beaches is North Ave Beach. If you’re looking for a lively/upbeat atmosphere then check out Castaways at North Ave Beach. This is also a great spot to show off your volleyball skills. Looking for a beach that you and Fido can enjoy together? Montrose Dog Beach is a great spot for you & the pup to cool down & enjoy the weather together.

Leagues – For those athletic types, there’s a variety of summer leagues that you can join. This a great way to meet people while getting in a workout. There’s a league for almost any sport you can think of, so get some friends together or join solo. Even if you lack athletic ability (me), this could be a fun way to meet new people.

Patios – It’s patio season!!! There’s numerous bars & restaurants around the city that have outdoor patio areas. Food, beer & sunshine….. it doesn’t get any better. There’s an extensive list, but here are a few to check out: Parsons Chicken & Fish, The Dawson, Volo….

Festivals – There’s an abundance of festivals during this time of year. Each festival is unique with the theme, music, food & the people. Sometimes people watching can be just as entertaining as the festival.  Lollapalooza, Chicago Blues Festival, Chicago Pride Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival, Old Town Art Fair, Pitchfork Festival………… and the list goes on.

Millennium Park – Millennium Park is a haven for free summer events. This is a convenient spot for those of you that work around the Loop. Whether you’re wanting to plan a romantic picnic or just meet up with some friends, you can’t go wrong with free entertainment! It seems like everything else around the city costs an arm & a leg, so take advantage of it while you can! Pull your calendars out, but then again, it’s 2016 & everyone’s attached to their smartphones. Anyways….. the Millennium Park Summer Music Series offers 18 free outdoor concerts every Monday & Thursday, June 6 – August 25. There’s also the Millennium Park Summer Film Series, the outdoor movies commence June 21st and run through August 30th………….. TUESDAYS!!

Who wants to join me??…………………….
